When You Can't Help But Wonder, "Will This All Matter?"

When You Can't Help But Wonder, "Will This All Matter?"

At some point, and many points, in our lives, we'll hear our hearts ask: "Will what I'm doing really matter in the long run? Will it matter when I’m gone?" In a world that often measures worth by visible impact, this question can feel heavy.

But what if the answer isn't found in striving harder, but in resting deeper? Today, I want to explore three truths that can lighten this burden and invite us into wonder, not weary striving.

1. We Are Not God (And That's a Relief!)

It's easy to feel responsible for creating lasting permanence in our lives. We want to leave an undeniable mark. Yet, profound peace comes when we remember: we are not God.

We don't need to ensure our efforts achieve some grand, eternal outcome. Our Creator handles the "lasting permanence." Our role is not to be Him, but to trust Him. Imagine the freedom in releasing the pressure to make things last forever. We can simply offer what we have and trust His faithfulness to weave it into His eternal tapestry. (Song linked: "Through Heaven's Eyes" by Brian Stokes Mitchell from the movie The Prince of Egypt... take a listen if you need a fun, inspiring, nostalgic song today!)

2. There is Beauty in the Brevity of This Life

Life, in its earthly form, is beautifully brief. And in that brevity is an invitation: to fully enjoy the little and the big things alike.

When we are secure in Christ, our worth isn't contingent on the nature of our earthly journey. Our significance is already sealed in Him. This truth frees us from the exhausting race of trying to make our lives "spectacular." We are already known, loved, and held.

This earthly life is not eternal, thank goodness! It means there’s no pressure for this fleeting existence to be flawless. Instead, we get to look forward to eternity with God. This perspective allows us to savor the present moments not for their permanence, but for their transient beauty.

3. The Truth About the Kingdom of God

Perhaps the most freeing revelation is understanding that we are already active participants in the most meaningful storyline ever conceived – the kingdom of God. This kingdom operates on an entirely different economy from the world's.

In God's economy, our hearts are infinitely more important than our outward success. This perspective revolutionizes how we view even the most mundane tasks. Folding laundry with a prayerful heart, lovingly preparing a meal, comforting your tired child – these are not insignificant. When done with surrender to God, they are eternally meaningful.

So, the next time you find yourself thinking "Will this matter?" – take a deep breath. Release the burden of being God. Lean into the precious brevity of this life, knowing a spectacular eternity awaits. And ask for His help to see your vital, beautiful role in His unfolding kingdom story.

Pause and Ponder: Which of these three truths resonates most deeply with you today? How might this perspective bring more peace and wonder into your daily life?
